Overview

The dental radiographer must have a working knowledge of radiographic image receptors and intraoral radiographic techniques to produce quality images. Occasionally, errors will occur which can result in diagnostically unacceptable radiographic images. When errors do occur, the radiographer must have the requisite skills to evaluate, correct and ultimately eliminate the errors. A review of image receptors and the following troubleshooting steps can help correct and subsequently prevent common errors.
