Overview

This course reviews key components of the immune system and their coordinated roles in preventing and eliminating the etiologic agents of disease. Current concepts in the immunopathogenesis of periodontal disease will be discussed with emphasis on the role of inflammation in periodontal tissue destruction.


The course reviews key elements of immunity and the role of the immune system in periodontal inflammation. The most current concepts in the progression of the periodontal lesion leading to alveolar bone loss will be discussed.
