Overview
This continuing education course will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), describe drug and non-drug treatments to help manage the symptoms of AD, and present ways for dental professionals to modify the provision of oral health care to meet the needs of patients diagnosed with AD.
Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia in adults older than 65, is a progressive, irreversible brain disease that destroys cognitive functioning. To facilitate patient-centered care for individuals diagnosed with AD, dental professionals must be aware of the stages of the disease, common signs and symptoms, and drug and non-drug treatments to help with cognitive and behavioral symptoms. The following course will provide an overview of the disease, describe drug and non-drug treatments to help manage the symptoms of AD, and present ways for dental professionals to modify the provision of oral health care to meet the needs of patients diagnosed with AD.
