Oral-B’s latest power toothbrush sets a new oral care standard featuring groundbreaking Position Detection Technology.  By combining motion sensor technology located in the brush, and video recognition using the smartphone’s camera, all areas of the users mouth can be tracked so that they know exactly where they’ve brushed and where they’ve missed! Patients receive instant feedback on the brushing of each zone of the mouth via the Oral-B App 4.1, including guidance on pressure applied and brushing duration. These features, combined with the Oral-B Oscillating-Rotating-Pulsating Technology and the unique round brush head, helps patients improve their oral health.

Professional Backing

Louis Mackenzie, GDP and clinical lecturer at University of Birmingham School of Dentistry has been piloting the toothbrush (on both himself and his patients) for several months and is enthusiastic about the benefits afforded by this innovation: “Optimal tooth brushing is a fundamental component of oral home care routines for all dentate patients. However non-uniform brushing techniques can result in both under- and over-brushing in certain areas of many patients’ mouths.  The Oral-B Genius and App use digital guidance technology to bring awareness to what’s actually happening each time patients brush and gives them real-time guidance to improve every brushing session.”

‘Supervised’ Brushing

Oral-B Genius is almost like supervised brushing.  Used correctly it will ensure the user brushes for the right length of time, does not apply too much pressure and never misses a zone! Oral-B research has revealed that up to 80% of people spend insufficient time brushing in at least one zone in their mouth and 60% of people either didn’t brush their back molars at all, or spent insufficient time brushing them1. Additionally, up to 40% of right-handed people do not spend enough time in the lower right jaw.1 Now, when paired with the Oral-B App 4.1, the Position-Detection Technology in Oral-B Genius tracks brush position, and shows the user how to brush all zones in the mouth equally and evenly.

Thorough, not Aggressive Brushing

Excessive pressure during brushing is one of the key reasons for gum tissue abrasions. Some manual patients apply brushing forces two times the recommended pressure, which can be harmful to the gums. Oral-B Genius protects gums from over aggressive brushing by visually indicating when too much pressure is applied, automatically slowing down the brush head speed, and stopping the pulsations. With the Oral-B guidance system, up to 93% of aggressive brushers reduced their brushing force and the time spent brushing with excessive force was reduced by up to 88%2.

Practical as well as Functional

As a society we are leading increasingly mobile-dominated lives.  With this in mind, Oral-B Genius incorporates several features to facilitate its use.  Firstly, the stylish smart travel case charges both the brush and a USB device, such as a smartphone, with a single plug for any voltage to make traveling easier than ever.  Secondly, Oral-B Genius comes supplied with a practical smartphone holder so that your phone can be easily and securely placed on your bathroom mirror to ensure optimal use of Position Detection Technology while brushing, and is removable and re-attachable for flexible, on-the-go use.  Thirdly, it contains a lithium-ion battery, which has a much longer battery life, giving patients at least two weeks of brushing between charges.  Lastly, it contains SmartRing, a personalized multicolor 360° lighting system, featuring 12 different colored lights that allow patients to customize their brushes via the Oral-B App.  If you share your brush, you can ensure that it can clearly be identified by your colour!  If you don’t, then you can just switch colours, maybe to match your bathroom or maybe to match your mood!

Oral-B GENIUS sets a new standard in the industry, and will forever change how people brush their teeth. Problems with user techniques could be eliminated.  Digital brushing is here to stay and the ramification for oral hygiene is immense.
