EFP AND ORAL-B JOIN FORCES TO GENERATE AWARENESS ON HOW TO PREVENT PERIODONTAL DISEASES
Posted 07/10/2015
The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), in partnership with Oral-B, has launched a public campaign to prevent the spread of bleeding gums and periodontal diseases.
The campaign is based on the ground-breaking recommendations of last year’s 11th European Workshop on Periodontology. This workshop (known as the “Prevention Workshop”) brought together more than 70 of the world’s leading periodontal and medical researchers, who reached a new consensus on the effective prevention of periodontal and peri-implant diseases. The conclusions of their authoritative analysis were published in April in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.
One of the Workshop's conclusions likely to have an impact in the dental community was that studies of plaque removal have confirmed that power brushes are more effective than manual brushing. In addition, there was evidence that certain ingredients in some toothpastes reduce pain in patients with dentine hypersensitivity. Certain toothpastes and mouth rinses were also shown to lower gum inflammation and prevent plaque accumulation when used in addition to mechanical brushing. For more information and a link to the original publications, please visit the Prevention Workshop websitehttp://prevention.efp.org/. In the coming months, the website will be regularly updated with special guidelines for dentists, hygienists and patients, as well as with news articles and informative videos and interviews.
